Björk Guðmundsdóttir is an Icelandic singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and DJ. Over her four-decade career, she has developed an eclectic musical style that draws on a range of influences and genres spanning electronic, pop, experimental, classical, trip hop, IDM, and avant-garde music.

Life[]

Björk was born on 21 November 1965 in Reykjavík, where she grew up. Her mother is activist Hildur Rúna Hauksdóttir, who protested against the development of Iceland's Kárahnjúkar Hydropower Plant. Her father is Guðmundur Gunnarsson, a union leader and electrician. They divorced when Björk was born and she moved with her mother to a commune.

Personal life[]

In 1986, Björk wed Þór Eldon. On 8 June the same year, she gave birth to their son, Sindri Eldon Þórsson.

She gave birth to daughter Isadora Bjarkardóttir Barney on 3 October 2002. She is the only child with ex-partner Matthew Barney.
